The word APEX stands for African American Panoramic Experience. The establishment of the APEX Museum was conceived by Dan Moore inspired by works of unsung heroes like Dr. Benjamin E. Mays. The museum intends to propagate a better understanding among Americans and other international visitors regarding the contributions made by Africans-Americans to world history. It is Atlanta’s only museum to celebrate the rich cultural history of the African-Americans.
Various eminent personalities like John Hope Franklin, Cecily Tyson, Gladys Knight, and Halle Berry are known to have visited this prestigious museum. You can visit the Yates and Milton Drug Store, the first black-owned store of Atlanta. Apart from this, the stories of ealry African-American pioneers, African families that have contributed a lot to the history of Atlanta, recreates an era gone by.
