Info

Located on Central Avenue, the Museum exhibits a wide array of firefighting equipment like vintage engines, including a 1940 Pirsch ladder truck and a 1890 hose wagon, uniforms from New York, LA County and LA City firefighters, badges, helmets, displays of African American Women firefighters, photographs, and other authentic firefighting artifacts from the fire service dating back to 1924.

Due to segregation laws, African-Americans were required to work in separate fire stations and Fire Station No. 30 was one of the two in Los Angeles where African Americans were allowed to work in the early part of the 20th century. Today the first station is a museum that is home to exhibits depicting the lives and experiences of African Americans who have fought fires in Los Angeles from 1897 to the present day. African-American firefighters have played a huge part in the history of the LAFD and in the history of desegregation.
